Lots of Cone Trees -- What?

Hey everyone!  I'm here again sharing some more crafting ideas.  This time it's all about cone trees.  Again, Pinterest is to blame -- I saw THIS idea that Krista at The Happy Housie had done and knew immediately that I had to make some.  Krista shares how to make your own cones out of poster board or cardstock which I already had.  This was just perfect for me, because I was really wanting to add something with a bit of height and texture to the top of my China cabinet.  I especially wanted to do something with drop cloth since I have amassed quite a lot of that.....lol!  So, here is what I made.

Now I'll show you how I made it!
I cut out and glued my cones in different heights as per Krista's instructions.

Next, I cut strips of drop cloth, and it really doesn't matter if the strips are exactly the same.

Then I kind of fringed the strips -- don't over-think this process.  They were anywhere from 1/2 inch to 1 inch in width.

Just started gluing the strips on from the bottom up and slightly angling as I went.

I have a bunch of old brass beads in my stash and simply glued two of them together and then glued to the top of the cone.  Buttons or any number of things would work for the top.

Here is where they ended up.  I made three and.......

and mixed them in with some Dollar Store tinsel trees.  I'm so happy with how they turned out!

Here is the third one.  Two on one end and one on the other -- balanced but not matchy-matchy!

Well, I was having so much fun making cone trees that I simply could not stop!  Here I covered one with tinsel garland, wrapped some turquoise yarn around the tree and added it to a ball jar snow globe.  I also covered another cone tree with a chenille-type yarn.  This vignette is in my craft room which I'll share in another post.

See, I told you I just couldn't stop, so I made three more for our guest bath.  One is covered with white fringe (already had), and the other two are covered in a couple of different types of yarn which I also had.

I just adore these and will share the entire guest bath and guest bedroom in another post.

This is another cone tree that I made a few years ago using a store-bought cone shape which I painted red and then covered with some of the garland beads.

I think I'm finished making cone trees for this year, although I keep looking around to see where I might be able to squeeze in another one.  They are just so cute!  No, seriously, I'm finished!  Hmmm?

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I really should make y'all some cookies for next time.  I'll have to think about that and whether there would actually be any left by the time you arrived.......sigh!  Cookies or not, come by anytime!

  1. This looks like a much better option than what I did a few years ago. Cone tree, red glitter & glue. As awful as you're imagining, it was worse! It turned out cute it just took A WHOLE LOT longer than I expected & then of course red glitter was everywhere & the stupid thing kept "shedding". I think I used it one Christmas & decided that was enough.

  9. Hi Carol! yes I think the cone trees are the rage this season. I made my first one a few days ago. I really like the linen, it looks so vintage-y ;-)
