All Aboard "The Sound of Music" River Boat!

Hey everyone!  I hope you have been enjoying this long weekend and good weather -- depending on where you are, I guess.  Today I want to continue our Rhine River travels with you.  This 19 day adventure was a combination of motor coach, river cruising, and more motor coach.  Upon arriving in Amsterdam, we immediately boarded Gate 1's "The Sound of Music" river boat, so I thought I would share some of the highlights on board this beautiful vessel.

This will be our home for the next seven days!
This pic is from their advertising brochure.

All aboard!  Even the waters of a river can get a bit choppy, but we rarely felt any motion from the inside.  I had my Sea Bands just incase but never had to use them.

Lobby -- everything was always spic and span, and there was almost always a friendly & smiling face to greet you as you walked through or left the boat.

Lobby -- also from the Gate 1 brochure.  Once we were onboard, this place was never without people milling around and detracting from your photo.....lol!

Our room was very nice, compact but plenty of room.  We had a French balcony -- floor to ceiling sliding door with a railing.  In this photo, another cruise boat was parked beside us -- I guess we should close those drapes!

The bathroom had plenty of storage for both of us to unpack our toiletries.

Plenty of drawer space and a side-by-side wardrobe.  There was plenty of room for us to completely unpack and then stow our 2 suitcases in one of the wardrobes.

Our room had two twins hooked together, & we each had our own bedding.

Our room attendant was Annamarie, and she left cute things like this on occasion.  After dinner each night, we would find our beds turned down and a chocolate morsel on each pillow -- a person could get very use to that!

The dining room was beautiful -- most tables accommodated six & some eight.

The tables were always set beautifully.  Most of our dinners were 4 or 5 courses, and we selected
our own entrees.

All of the servers were so extremely polite and plentiful, so you never had to wait for anything.  We seemed to be in Augustine's area of the dining room more times than not, so he became our favorite.

Oh, yes, there were some yummy desserts!

Desserts were definitely the most photogenic!

The Lounge was quite large, plenty of comfy seating, and the bar was right in
the middle -- very handy!  Every afternoon at 4 o'clock, tea and cakes were
served here, too.

It was fun to be inside or out.

The sun deck -- usually a bit too chilly and windy for this desert rat!

No matter where you were on the boat, there was always something interesting to see.

This was  "Get Acquainted-time" our first night onboard!

Looking out the bow of the boat.

It's kind of hard to see, but those are vineyards on the sides of the hills.

We saw lots of castles as we cruised along.  Most are occupied, too!

I just want to say "Thank you" to those of you who have been following along with my travel posts.  You have left some very nice comments, and they are greatly appreciated.  I hope you won't get bored with the whole thing before I'm finished, because I have several more adventures to share.  Until next time, make today your favorite day!

  1. This looks like such a great way to see the sights. Much better than a huge cruise ship.

  3. A river boat looks like something I could handle. Those huge ships with thousands of passengers doesn't look fun to me! Everything looks so beautifully kept and nice on this boat, it must have been so very fun! What a very special trip you were blessed to take. Good for you two! Blessings on the Memorial Day weekend! 4. I think this looks like so much fun---I've always been frightened of the big open sea so this would probably be good for me. The ship looks amazing and the food So good! This has been a great eye opener for me, Carol!

  5. This is wonderful! I kinda imagined someone was singing " The hills are alive..." as you enter the lobby, but this was really fancy and nice! I've never been on a river cruise and would love to someday, I would surely keep this in mind Carol. Thanks for the tour!

  6. Those are some nice accommodations! Love all the dessert pics too. Yum! Looks like y'all were very well taken care of. I bet it was hard to re-enter reality when you got home. A girl can totally get used to that treatment! :)
