One Year Ago

One year ago today, I began my "Cancer Journey."  Sometimes a year of life seems to pass in the blink-of-an-eye, and sometimes one hour seems to stretch endlessly on.  However we process the passing of time, it's different for each one of us.  At times, this past year seems to have flown by, but mostly it has moved so very slowly.  I am forever grateful to have had a wonderful support system....my family, all of you, and this wonderful man of mine.
I often get teary just thinking how grateful and blessed I am to have had Rick in my life for all these many years (47 and counting).  He was by my side for every single appointment, sitting countless hours on uncomfortable chairs, but always ready to do whatever I needed him today.  I know there are many women and men who go through serious illness alone and survive and bless their hearts for being that strong.  I'm just glad I didn't have to do this by myself.

I am forever grateful that we live close to the best Cancer Center in the nation....MD Anderson.  I am forever grateful for the wonderful doctors, nurses and volunteers who try their best to make you as comfortable as possible, but also realize and understand how frightening it all is.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but please start today to do self-exams and become very familiar with all of your lumps and bumps.  YOU are the BEST first step!

Thanks to all of you who have been so very supportive during this past year.  I feel very blessed to say you are my friends!

Warm hugs,
Carol

  3. Carol...I just love ya! The diagnosis and treatment made it very real for women (who read your posts) who have not only been through it but could learn a lot more to get the exams. The fact that you had a smile on your face in all of these pictures in not only a testament to your personality and positive thinking, but the hope we all must grasp when faced with cancer.

MD Anderson is the best as I've heard and it is now associated with a huge hospital blocks from my house. My husband has always been an advocate of Northwestern here in Chicago and he has good reason. But it's also nice to know there is something 5 minutes away.

Sending love and good wishes. Yes, time is hard to account for!

  12. Carol, you don't know me, but I find it remarkable that I stumbled upon this post and your blog today.
My name is Jan. I have a sister...we call her Georgie. Today, this very day, my sister gets to "ring the bell!" She is a 5 year survivor of Breast Cancer!!! Georgie had a double mastectomy five years ago!
So, in a way I understand what you have been through this past year after watching my sister struggle and dealing with this terrible disease these past five years.
You are very fortunate that you have a loving husband who was there for you.
    Congratulations Carol!!!

    With Love and Hugs

  19. I was diagnosed of herpes 3 years, and ever since then i have been taking treatment to prevent outbreaks, burning and blisters, but there was no improvement until i came across testimonies of Dr. VOODOO on how he has been curing different people from different diseases all over the world, then i contacted him. After our conversation he sent me the medicine which i took according to his instructions for up to 2 weeks. After completing the medication i went back to my doctor for another test and the virus was all gone and i was completely cured, since then i have not had any signs of outbreak. I'm so filled with joy. With herbal medication Herpes Virus is 100% curable. I refer Dr VOODOO to everyone out there with the virus Email: voodoospelltemple66@gmail.com Add Dr voodoo on whatsApp +2348140120719
