This is a bowl that The Man picked up somewhere, maybe a garage sale. It was dirty, yucky, and I used it for years to hold potted flowers outside. During the holidays, The Man was looking for little projects to occupy a very long vacation, so I handed him this bowl. My question was "Can you make this look good enough to go on the dining room table?" Well, a couple of hours later, he presented the transformation. It sat empty on the table for a couple of weeks after Christmas waiting for me to decide what to put inside. It really didn't bother me having it empty because he really transformed it into a thing of beauty. I finally did decide to fill it with potpourri & added some textural, earthy spheres to help fill the space. I'm really happy the way it turned out.
This bowl is supposed to be an authentic Hopi Indian bowl. Whether it is, I don't know(I have my doubts because it was cheap), but I like it. It may or may not have been used for dough, but it has the right shape. Normally I wouldn't alter something that is supposed to be truly old, but it has kicked around our home for many years & was in desperate need of a face-lift, so I sanded it a bit and added just a little dark red paint to it.
It's now ready to serve many more purposes around here. This was my first fall display last year. Loved how it looked filled with flowers, gourds, pumpkins, etc.
Now I will probably be keeping my eyes peeled for more such bows! Thanks for stopping by and please come again soon.
