Hey, everyone! Happy Monday to all of you! Since I haven't shared an "organizing" post in awhile, I thought I would let you in on a chaotic little secret -- our master bath linen cupboard. Actually, I don't think I've shared the master bath with you except in the "prior to move-in tour," so I guess this is as good a time as any. Please keep in mind that although we've made a few changes in here, they were very small changes, & we have more on the "To Do" list for this room. So, are you ready? Alrighty then, let's get started.
I know, Plain-Jane & Builder-Basic, but nothing looks too chaotic, right? Well, do you see that
cabinet reflected in the mirror? Yes, this one.......
right here! Still doesn't look "demonic." I mean the doors close and everything, but wait till you see what lurks behind closed doors.
I did nothing to protect the innocent (or most aptly, the very quilty), & I'm trying not to hang my head in shame -- I can't believe I'm actually showing you this! Just keeping it REAL as they say.
This project has been on my "TO DO" list for awhile now, so I've been gathering some baskets & containers that I had (didn't want to buy anything new) that I thought might work.
I started by emptying out the cupboard. Would you believe this was all on one shelf? Seriously, how many totebags do 2 people need?
Once it was all empty, I scrubbed all of the inside. The Man painted the inside of this one & it's twin, which is located close to the guest bedroom and bath, before we actually moved in. Then shortly after we got settled, he added hardware to every cabinet in the entire house. We don't like the "no-hardware" look, do you?
This space is kind of difficult to organize, because the space is very deep -- 24"x24" & 16" between shelves. They are kind of like great big boxes. Now don't get me wrong, I'm so thankful to have this linen cabinet, because I've never had this much storage in a bathroom before. I just had to put my "thinkin cap" on to come up with a workable solution to get it organized.
Well, this is what I came up with.
I may have to re-think the location of the towels -- they are a little difficult for "short-stuff" here to reach. What I decided to do on most of the other shelves, was to utilize the perimeter of each shelf & place as many things as possible into some kind of container -- with a label of course! The 2nd shelf is for 1st aid, medications, ice bag, heating pad, & anything related to aches & pains. I had the little mini-drawer unit & decided to use it for bandaids, neosporin, etc.
The small black crates are from Walmart's Back-to-School sale last year. The colors were very limited, so I went with black, but 2/$1 couldn't be beat! I really weeded out the totebag collection & made this bottom shelf for our travel needs.
The first shelf of the lower section of this cabinet is the perfect height for our "use every day" things -- deodorant, body creams, powders, etc. I put my necessities on one side & The Man's on the other. The space in the center seemed like the perfect spot for this little mirrored tray (have had for years) holding perfumes, cologne & a small crystal dish that holds my rings & watches that I wear most frequently. I also found a good use for an old zippered cosmetic bag that I no longer use for traveling.
It holds all my mani-pedi paraphernalia, & is very easy to grab & take wherever.
This shelf is for all those extras that I either buy at Costco or when there is a good sale. In the center area, I grabbed a little silver tray that I had, & filled a pretty bottle with mouthwash & added a small glass -- just because it's a storage area behind closed doors, doesn't mean it can't be prettied up a bit!
Well, as long as I've made myself this vulnerable by sharing our personal hygiene with ya'll, I might as well give you a little look around the rest of this room.
This is the largest bathroom we've ever had, & our first time to have double sinks! I know, so deprived aren't we....lol!
Besides adding the hardware, The Man also changed out the light fixture.
Yes, we had these horrible builder-basic, no one looks good in this light, kind of fixture.
I don't know about ya'll, but I love lamp light.
I've had this little stained glass lamp for years, & it has been re-located countless times.
Right now it's happily at home here on the vanity.
This is another first for us -- the separate tub and shower. I love the tub & try to put it to good use as often as possible!
Well, I hope no one has gone blind looking at such a private space, but at least I didn't take you into the....ahem...... toilet room. Well, not yet anyway.....lol! So anyway, thanks so much for stopping by, & hope you will come again soon.
I'm happily linking to these parties this week:

Hi Cas,
ReplyDeleteI didn't really think your linen closet was that bad. I mean it had a door on it and it closes. LOL
I wish I was more of an organizer. I might get to it next year. Ha!
Thanks for the tour...very pretty and I love your lamp.
♥charlotte
I've got to agree with Charlotte--the "before" wasn't too bad. The "after" looks great, though. Enjoy your functional, beautiful space!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the organizing. I LOVE the 'grab and go' back of mani/pedi stuff. Super idea, and I am totally stealing it. This will be perfect for me and our 14 yo daughter...she is always nabbing my stuff! This way we can keep it all together.
ReplyDeleteAnd isn't it crazy what a difference changing light fixtures can do?
You did a wonderful job organizing, Cas! It's making me feel a little guilty about mine! And I can identify with the tote bags! I love how large your bath is. Lucky you! :)
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Hi CAS. The closets look wonderful. Great job. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job organizing your closet. You are lucky to have so much space. Our main bathroom is no bigger than the space you have for your tub & shower. Seriously!
ReplyDeleteNow you make me feel so ashamed:) In fact my husband asked me to organize ours...I work PT and watch grandkids when am I supposed to do it I asked.LOL Yours looks great maybe I'll get some inspiration from you to finally do it:)
ReplyDeleteGreat job getting that task done. It is amazing how we just keep cramming thing into cupboards sometimes. It all looks great, and I agree you were on tote overload. LOL
ReplyDeleteCas, you did a wonderful job organizing your closet. It looks awesome! No shame on that! We all have a closet, or two, that needs some serious TLC! LOL I love, love the lamp on your vanity! And your bath/shower area looks so pretty! Love that big window! We also still have those horrible builder lights in our bathroom. Already looking at replacing those. You are right, no way we can look good with that lighting! LOL
ReplyDeleteoh i so wish i could be organized like this! such a great job!!!! hey -- the linen closet has a door -- that's ALWAYS a good thing : ) hugs to you and hope you are able to snatch a few stray drawers along the way -- i know i will be!!!! : )
ReplyDeleteGreat job organizing Cas, although it really didn't look all that bad before.
ReplyDeleteNice large bath space and loving the lamps too!
Hugs,
Cindy
This makes me want to organize a closet or two. I love the term you used "builder basic" I have tried to get rid of that kind of a look too in most of my house.
ReplyDeleteGood solution with all of the baskets and storage.

ReplyDeleteWow good job. How nice to have a linen closet in the bathroom. You did a super job of organizing everything. Great bathroom too. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteHi Cas! Oh I love how you rearranged your cabinets! This is something I always intend to do but don't get around to doing it. You have inspired me! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping in to see me.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
You did a great job organizing the cupboard. And your new light over the vanity looks fantastic! I love a separate shower/bath combo! I like to take baths, especially in the winter to get warm, and I don't like to bathe where everyone's feet have been! Strange I know! You are lucky to have such a big bath! Angie xo
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Sometimes it is more challenging to organize a big space than a small space. It is easy just to stuff it all in because it will fit. I know because we went from a large home to a small home, but now I am even more organized.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job!! I like hardware on my cabinets too. We had the same ugly lights & aside from painting that was the first thing we did when we moved in. I have some bathroom cabinets that I need to organize. They're big, deep cabinets so they don't get utilized like they could. Just have to figure out what I want to do. Separate sinks are so awesome!
