Celebrating Plus a Few Kitchen Changes

Hey everyone!  Hope y'all had a wonderful 4th of July!  The Man and I did a little diy Saturday morning (I'll share that in another post), and then went out to lunch at.......

This restaurant is based out of Chicago & began life as a simple hotdog wagon.  If you live in the Phoenix area, there is one in Scottsdale & Tempe.  They are also in CA, IL, IN & FL in 2016.  If you've tried this restaurant, then you know how good it is; if you haven't & there is one anywhere near you, GO.....GO QUICKLY!

We've been exercising & really watching how we eat, so this ended up being a "splurge-on-food" weekend!  Sunday we went to a local favorite......

Joe's is located in the Heritage District of Gilbert.  They also own Liberty Market which is just across the street, and Joe's Farm Grill (this has been featured on the Food Network).  We like them all, but this one is our fave!

Okay, I'll get on with sharing a few changes I've made in the kitchen.

For summer, I've been using my stand-by favorite color, turquoise, but have also added in some pops of red & yellow.  They just say "summer" to me!

I first saw this cute print at Lisa's @ Texas Decor and she saw it at Laura's @ Finding Home.  Isn't it cute, and it's a FREE download!  I added a little border of washi tape in turquoise, of course!  Thank's, Lisa, for sharing this on your blog, and thanks to Laura for the original print!

This is where I made several changes.  I love this desk-buffet.....it serves so many purposes.

I have my cookbooks in the left-hand lower cupboard, but decided I really wanted more of a designated space for looking over menus and planning meals.  This is my old laptop that had some of its memory fried, but still works great for Pinterest.  With a cupboard full of cookbooks, my go-to search is almost always Pinterest.

I do still enjoy having some of our "tried & true" recipes written or printed out, but consolidated a huge 3-ring notebook into this cute 8x8 album.  The album and recipe pages are a creation of the very-talented Becky Higgins of Project Life fame.  I will do a special post about this and share pics of the cute pages.  I've got it in my Blog Log coming up soon!

My coffee station is in the same location, but it has gone from this to......

Most of the components are the same, but I've changed out some containers.

This sugar & creamer are from my great-great grandmother.  I've had them for 40+ years, and they've been safely tucked away in my china cabinet all this time.  Well, I'm not doing that anymore with anything.  I'm on a mission to use everything no matter how sentimental & dear they might be and enjoy each and every piece.

I have no idea if these pieces have any monetary value or not.  It doesn't matter to me.  I'm just enjoying using them and visualizing that sweet farm couple & their children, gathered around the breakfast table with this large cream & sugar sitting somewhere in the middle.  As I use them every day, I think about how many hands have touched this set, and it always makes me smile.  That's a grasshopper in the design.

These 2 little glasses were also my great-great grandmother's.  They are very thin glass, but we are
gentle people.

At this end of the desk-buffet is a small vignette using an apothecary jar filled with napkin rings, a blue mason jar with a candle, and this sweet water color.......

That we bought in Salzburg from a sidewalk entrepreneur.  We love buying things like that as a
memento of our trips.

In case you are wondering, we are both loving the painted cabinets!  The kitchen just seems
so much happier and bright.

Thank y'all so much for popping in to visit.  Remember....you are always welcome here!

  1. So glad you like the printable! It looks great in your kitchen and the washi tape is a fabulous idea! I love that you're using that pretty sugar and creamer. I agree, we should use things like that more often. The older I get, the more I appreciate things that are passed down from generation to generation. :)

  2. Love the watercolor! I try to get cute little momentos like that on trips.

  3. Very pretty Carol. I love those two rooster dishtowels hanging on your island. Fun colors!

  4. Love that you are using things, Carol. I am, too! I am tired of storing things and never using them. WHAT am I saving them for? I don't want to hoard things and make them art objects. They need to be used and loved. Hope you have a great week- xo Diana

  5. I LOVE Joe's BBQ, haven't been in years but drove by there yesterday after taking my mom to the doc and told her we need to go eat there soon!!! Great little changes in your kitchen/dining area. I love the watercolor you picked up on your trip! And I believe in using all of the treasures we may have received from family members, I don't like to just have stuff that I can't use, we can't take it with us, so use it while we are here! Blessings, Cindy xoxo

  6. I'll have to remember Joe's next time we're out that way for dance. We're always looking for restaurants at the last minute. And, I really do like your painted cabinets. I still haven't done much with my kitchen because we can't make up our minds on the cabinet color. :)

  7. Love, love your kitchen! The prints are wonderful, Carol, specially the one from your trip. The little pops of turquoise look beautiful with your white cabinets.

I truly love to hear from you and try to respond to each and everyone. If you have "no reply blogger," I will respond in my comments section and then visit your blog as soon as I can.

Make this a great day!
