Do You ULTA?

Hey everyone!  Kind of a strange title to this post, but sometimes the brain cells just cannot come up with something clever, and this was one of those times.  I am new to ULTA....I know, probably the last woman on the planet who hadn't shopped there, but now I'm hooked!  After many months of not using much makeup (chemo made my skin very sensitive), I decided I was ready to toss a bunch of stuff and start fresh; and ULTA was my first stop.  I am now a proud "card-carrying" ULTA consumer!  This is a rarity for me, but I thought a "Make-Up Haul" would be fun.

I also found several things at Tar-jay!  I had read quite a bit about some of the elf products & tools, and Target carries a good selection.

I've never used a face primer before and thought it was probably an extra step I didn't really need, but this elf Mineral Infused Face Primer feels like silk on your face.  I wear it even when I'm not using foundation.  A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!

I've also been reading about the BB & CC creams and decided to try this Maybelline BB Cream.  It's basically a tinted moisturizer with SPF 30....wow!  It's very sheer, so if you are looking for more coverage, you might like the CC Cream -- I understand it has more coverage.  I would love to know if any of you have tried these products and what you think.

This elf Concealer in Light is too dark for me, so I ended up getting NYX Concealer in Fair.  I missed taking a photo, but I like the NYX product much better.

I've been using the Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Powder Foundation for a while now and really like it. Now that I'm using the BB Cream, I use this more as a setting powder and just lightly brush it on.

I'm really liking this elf Blush Palette, especially the two colors on the left.  The one on the upper right seems to be good for contouring.....I don't bother with that step very often.

I've had this eye shadow palette for quite awhile, and especially like it for Fall/Winter.

This is a more recent purchase which I thought would be good for Spring/Summer.

I'm kind of struggling with eyebrows right now, and neither the Sonia Kashuk or the Milani Pencils seem to be the right color.  My eyebrows are slowly coming in, but they are much darker than they ever were before.  That's also true of my hair.  My natural color hair (as well as I can remember....lol) was medium brown, but what's coming in now is black-brown with lots of silver platinum.  I would really like to eliminate the "coloring" process in the future with my new "virgin" hair but.... seriously, the color is freaking me out every time I pass a mirror!

Whew, enough about hair and eyebrows! Let's talk lips!  My lips are extremely dry, even though I am constantly using chapstick or EOS, so I have to use a lipliner.  One is Rimmel EXAGGERATE Full Colour in Ravish....oh, yeah, that is so me!  The other is Loreal Colour Riche in Chocolate.  I like both of these really well.

I love lipstick and wear it every day.  The Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick in Bright Berry and Maybelline Tinted Taupe are two of my faves!

I had had a bunch of brushes for a good 15 years.....I washed them frequently and took good care of them, but they were old and needed to be replaced.  I ended up with quite a few elf and Real Techniques brushes(carried by ULTA).
1) Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge Set...these are very nice and feel so soft on your face 2) elf concealer brush 3&4) Real Techniques basic brushes set in this nice little travel case 5) several elf eye brushes 6) elf powder brush 7) elf angled blush brush 8) pencil sharpeners

I'm not quite sure what's giving me the "guts" to share this "Before" photo, but here goes.....remember to be kind to this 67 year old face! I just thought you should see what a bit of makeup can do!

F.R.E.A.K.Y.   Before  and.........................................After -- YAY for cosmetics and wigs!

If you are still with me, I truly appreciate it and hope you'll have enough nerve to come again!
Have a happy week!

  1. You look totally amazing. I seem to need to redo my makeup about onece a year. Aging seems to totally change things. I think you are a very young 67 and considering what you've been through you absolutely look stunning. Even without the cancer and all those treatments, you look stunning.

  2. You are a beautiful woman, Carol! Before / After / 67 / cancer treatment / You. Are. Beautiful!!! I am an Ulta girl. I don't purchase everything I use there, but I kind of frequent the place, especially since it's just down the street! I think I may want to try a primer, I've never used one but might splurge! Bless You, Cindy xo

  4. You are absolutely beautiful, my friend!!! I love the elf products. I think Target has the best selection too. I've tried a few NYX products and really liked them. Just proof that makeup doesn't have to be pricey to do the job right. :)

  7. Nope, you're not the last woman to get on the Ulta train! I went in there with a friend about 6 months ago for the first time...I didn't buy anything, but I did see that they carry a Chanel perfume that I can't find in the stores anymore. So for now, that's my only purchase there. But I'm sure I'll branch out eventually

    1. Well, I'm so glad I'm not alone in my ULTA experience, Karyl! I like that the store carries a lot of the drug store brands, as well as the higher-end products.

Hope you have a great week!

    1. ULTA is a cosmetics store. They sell their own line, as well as high-end, and drug store brands. The ones around here also have a hair salon. The store is well arranged and well-lit. It's kind of like a candy shop, except it has cosmetics.

      Thanks for visiting!

  9. Such a lovely blog! I'm just so happy that I popped in by accident. I live in Germany (although I'm American), I only know about Neutrogena and Maybelline (is the spelling correct?!?) But anyway I think you-look-out-of-this-world-lovely!! Thanks for sharing.
I know I'm gonna step by more often :-)

  11. Carol you look amazing! Gorgeous!

I made my first trip to Ulta about 6 weeks ago when I looked long and hard in the mirror and decided it was time to change things up. I bought CC cream which is nice and SPF 50 but it's a little thicker than I care for. May go back for BB cream. The best thing I bought was new brushes which sure seem to make my complexion look smoother.

So I'm an Ulta card carrier right along with you girl. :)

Thank you for sharing this at Thoughts of Home on Thursday.I just feel honored that you will link with us.

  12. Carol,

I am so happy that you shared this post with all of the women out here who need inspiration and some honest makeup recommendations.
Going to the makeup counter in a department store can be so overwhelming and many times those ladies, as kind as they are get just a little pushy.
At least Ulta recommends then leaves a gal alone.
I am an Ulta Fan too and have been for many years (I have 3 daughters) so we have been shopping here a very long time.
I really like these choices and you are so right about the tinted moisturizer, isn't it awesome.
You are a beautiful woman, Carol inside and outside and just love the positive energy and optomistic vibes that I get from you!
67 has never looked so good, my friend!
Happy Hugs from one survivor to another!

  15. Wonderful ULTA, never heard of it, but hey, you got some fabulous make up too! Yay for make up, I love buying new color everything, but I'm always wearing the same things over and over and maybe the lipstick could be my only change. Eyes always remain the same, lol..
You are looking great sweet friend, with or without make up.
    Have a blessed weekend.

  17. Well, you look simply lovely! Way to go - whatever you're doing you are doing it right.
I had never heard of ULTA - did a little research in the past minutes and find that it is not in Canada, but see that there is one in Bellingham WA. I will have a look the next time I'm down there. I buy Boots No 7 whenever I am in a Target (which is also not in Canada).

  18. Although I have never shopped for makeup at Ulta, now I will have to go and have a look. So glad you shared with us at Merry Monday. You look gorgeous, would never have guessed 67!

  19. Carol, you're beautiful with all your Ulta stash! I've bought a number of products from them and it helps that we have an Ulta only 10 minutes from our house.

  20. You sure don't look your age my friend!!! Beautiful. I am actually the last woman who has never heard of this. Going to have to check it out!

  21. Your skin looks fabulous without makeup! I use the elf eyebrow products. I use to have nice thick "bushy" eyebrows that I would pluck & wax & now they're very thin & I haven't plucked or waxed in at least 10 years. I shop at Ulta & Sephora. My lips are always very dry too. I've tried everything with no luck. I try to just always keep something on them.
