Hey, everyone! I hope y'all had a wonderful Easter. We spent Sunday afternoon with our 2 youngest "Grands," & got to enjoy watching them participate in a little neighborhood egg hunt. So cute! Anyway, before I start packing away the Easter decor, I wanted to share our master bedroom update. A while back I gave you this "sneaky peek" at the fabric I was planning to use. It was love at first sight for me! Well, would you like to see the transformation? Of course you would, I know y'all so well....lol!
Well, of course we have to start with some before pics.
These photos were taken the first time we got to see our new home "empty." Considering that the previous owner was a single man with children (on occasion), the house was in really good shape. But you can't really see the walls & carpet very well until a house is empty, so that was a bit of a surprise. The carpet is a very high-grade, but very light color, so it was in desperate need of cleaning. Also, the previous owner had a bed against the wall without a headboard, so that wall was really disgusting. The Man literally slapped some paint on it that was leftover from the living room/dining room (after we "scrubbed" of course) so his wife could stop gagging.....lol! We also had a carpet cleaner come before we moved in.
Okay, enough of the Befores, let's get on with the Afters.
We still have walls to paint & some large expanses of blank walls, but we are okay with that for now. The rocker has been with us for many years, & we can't bring ourselves to paint or part with it, so this is where it's staying for now.
A little update on the rocker.....
I like it much better now that it's anchored with the floor lamp & makes for a cozy little sitting spot.
This piece of art (from Kirklands) is from our previous house (in the living room), & I knew I wanted it relocated to the master. I love it, & it was my inspiration for this room.
Ta-dah!
The fabrics, bedside lamps, reading lamps, fan light & one other piece of art are the only things we bought new for this room. With coupons & watching for sales, all the fabrics cost less than $100, which I thought was very good. I just love this fleur de lis fabric -- swoon!
I'm on the lookout for a bench to go at the foot of the bed, or maybe The Man could build
one --- hmmm? Right now we just have a little leather ottoman so The Man has a place to sit and put on his shoes.
The fleur de lis fabric is linen-like, but washable & doesn't wrinkle -- yay! I chose a light-weight lining fabric to do the backside of the duvet. It's so easy to make the duvet too heavy for our AZ climate.
I picked up the orange & green fabrics at Walmart, as well as the linen-look fabric for the long skinny pillow. I've been using that fabric a lot lately. It has a very slight texture & looks kind of shabby chic without being too shabby....lol! I added some black ribbon just for a bit of interest.
The little white shelf is one The Man made to hold the TV speakers in the living room of our previous house. I dressed up the shelf with some things I already had & hung the quilted wall-hanging below. I made this a few years ago, & it was hanging in our living room before.
This is The Man's side of the bed. The little framed mirrors are from Kirkland's.
Yes, we are some of "those" people who enjoy watching some TV at night -- don't judge! I made a coordinating pillow for my little rocker.
This is the other piece of art that we bought new for this room. I just love all the colors!
Do you see the tail growing out of the bottom of the TV?
Here's a closer look. There were two cords coming down on either side, so I fastened them together in the back & then covered the cords with some of my linen-look fabric. It may not look like much to you, but it is SOOO... much better than those dangling cords or the plastic cover The Man was planning to attach to the wall. I've been adding these fabric covers to a lot of cords around here lately. I'll share some pics later on.
And finally, we replaced the really ugly fan light that was here before. I tried to lighten up the photo so you could see the scroll detail on the upper part. There are also lights on top that bounce softly off the ceiling. If you have to have ceiling lights, & we do, then Harbor Breeze certainly
makes some pretty ones.
I know you want just one last pic so you can now be officially "photo over-loaded"......lol!
I hope you enjoyed the tour. At some point I will share the master bath, but it needs more work. I'm so glad you stopped by and please do come again soon!

Your room turned out just lovely, the painting above the bed is just perfect and you made the right decision by keeping it. Our Walmart doesn't sell fabric here:(
ReplyDeleteYour room turned out very nice. I really like the style of your bed.
ReplyDeleteWe also have a wall mounted TV in our bedroom with the u-g-l-y cords hanging down the wall. I've got to get around to making one of the cord hiders like you have. Although the fabric hanging down will still drive me bonkers. :)
Isn't it wonderful to finally get a room pulled together with the things we love! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteI think your bedroom turned out wonderfully! I love the fabric you chose for the duvet. (It makes me wish I could sew.)
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is so pretty! You did a great job, and I love your bedding. Nice combination of fabrics!

What a great post and bedroom. I adore those pops of color in the art work and the bed pillows and the TV looks great over that dresser piece. We need a fan and light in one of our bedrooms too. It is, though, getting easier to find one that looks nice.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are a part of the BeColorful group and I look forward to seeing all that you do here.

I love your color scheme (and that fabric too!) and the overall clean classy look of your room! Great job! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Cas! I love the white base paint and the balance of furniture and decorattive pieces in your bedroom. Everything looks so clean and organized. It has the element of beauty and aesthetics but it doesn't look exaggerated. Everything looks so beautiful, balanced and homey. Congratulations for the great transformation!
ReplyDeleteYou created a wonderful bedroom and I can't believe that you did all that for under $100. Wow! Way to shop! Love that fleur de lis fabric, and I know what you mean about duvets and warm climates. Great idea of covering the power cords. Wouldn't you think with all the technology out there that someone could make tvs, computers, and lamps without cords?
ReplyDeleteVery nice!! I love the fabric. The fan is really pretty too! When we moved into our house I couldn't believe how gross the carpet & walls were. It's so hard to see that stuff when furniture is in the house.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty room - I am sure it is a cozy retreat for you at the end of the day. How clever to make a cord cover for the cables! I'm your newest follower!! Jane
ReplyDeleteWow it's so nice to have dropped by your blog. That was a really great job, so clean and neat and homey. Great transformation :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful! I love the colors and the duvet is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSure looks pretty. So nice making it your own! I think I have that exact fabric. I bought it to make curtains. No curtains yet. LOL.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing what a piece of fabric can do for a room. Everything looks wonderful and I especially love the rocker. Now that I would like one, I can not seem to find one, but that is the fun part of thrifting.
