Hey, everyone! I've started hearing a lot about Google shutting down Friend Connect, which is essentially where all our followers are. I've gone in and read about it, but here's where the confusion sets in. They say they will be shutting down Google Friend Connect for all non-bloggers. Does anyone know what a non-blogger is? I've tried to pose the question to Google, but they haven't explained it, at least as far as I can understand. Is it just me, or is anyone else confused. If you know the answer, please share.
Thanks,
CAS
Hope google is relating non-bloggers to those who dont use blogspot as their blogging platform ( like wordpress.com )
ReplyDeletenot clear though..waiting for clarity !

I believe it it is for wordpress..and for folks who do NOT have a blog..they will have to subscribe via email to our posts.
ReplyDeleteHi Cas! I think this only affects the "non bloggers" or those who are using Google Connect in their wordpress accounts / blogs. As far as I know, blogger is still in the Google Family so no need to worries.
ReplyDeleteIs this the article you encountered? http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/11/more-spring-cleaning-out-of-season.html
I just assumed it was someone who has a g-mail account and comments on blogs but doesn't have a blog. Once in a while I've run across those. I didn't think about Wordpress as being a non-blogger...not sure about that.
ReplyDeleteI think it's going to cause a lot of confusion no matter what!
Like everyone else has mentioned, non-blogger refers to people whose blogs are not through blogspot. So any blogs you follow that are .net or straight .com will be dropped from GFC and you will need to follow them through another outlet. Don't worry, you won't lose any followers!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Feel free to ask for more clarification if I wasn't totally clear.
Sorry, I can't be of help! I was so confused on my blog for a week I went to Firefox and do everything from posting to commenting there. It has been a breeze so far.
ReplyDeleteI love your pantry redo!
I've been wondering the same thing. Thanks to those who left comments here I think I get the picture. Now I'm not worried about losing followers.
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
Carol
They will be closing GFC entirely soon as well, such a drag...
ReplyDeleteOh my, I don't know about this? Keep us posted because I don't pay attention to alot of things that I read most of the time.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about this either, please keep us posted about this.

"Blogger" is the name of google blogspot app. If you click on the bogger icon at the upper left of your blog it will take you to the dashboard. At the upper left of the dashboard you will see the blogger logo and the word "BLOGGER"
ReplyDeleteAnything not operating through that app is considerd a non-blogger.
Hope that helps.
Hugs, Ginger
I am so sad about GFC going away! I am a wordpress blog, so I guess I won't be able to use this :(
ReplyDeleteHope I can still use my google reader!

Hi Cas,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to come over and ask you to come by and see my post on my
pantry. It is on my Thankful Thursday post and if you don't have time to
read it all, at least read #1&2,
and scan the pics.
It will be up until Monday morning.
Sorry can't help you with the goodle friends connect thing, cause I am on blogger, so don't really know either, but you are certainly a blogger so would think you should be fine. Do you have a blogspot.com address?? Sounds like a stupid question but I can't see it with the comment pop up there.......
Anyway, hope you get the info you need...............sometimes I just wish they would leave things alone.
Have a nice weekend hon,
I am sure enjoying my pantry changes, thanks to you!!
Nellie
Ya'll are just the best! Thank you to everyone who responded & gave me advice. I'm okay now, confusion is gone, at least on this subject -- all is good with the world....lol!
ReplyDeleteCAS
I'm glad you posted this ... and, I feel better (I think - lol) !!
ReplyDeleteHey lovely,
ReplyDeleteDon't worry - non-Blogger just means people that don't use Blogger as their blogging platform. You do so you're fine!!
Google are doing it to try and lure people into using Google +, apparently!

Hi Cas! I'm glad you posted about this too! I was pretty sure I'd be okay since I do use Blogger, but now I feel a whole lot better!
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping in to see me.
be a sweetie,
shelia ;)
Crazy changes always! Makes me bite my nails! :) I'm hoping GFC stays the same for us with blogger blogs!!! Surely it will!?! I'm excited to know about your blog and happy to be your newest follower!!! I'd love for you to return the love when you visit next!
ReplyDeleteXO, Aimee
Darned if I know. I'm just as confused as you are. I think Deb was right though.
ReplyDeleteMy understanding is it is closing on people that don't use "Blogger". You should be fine because you use it. People that aren't "Blogger" are Word Press etc. That shows up at the end of their blog address.
